Fix common issues when using Plan Mode and Act Mode.

Agent not executing tasks

Problem: Agent only provides suggestions without taking action. Solutions:
  • Check if you’re in Plan Mode (look at bottom-right mode selector)
  • Switch to Act Mode to enable execution
  • Explicitly ask Agent to “execute” or “implement” the plan
  • Verify you approved the plan if in Plan Mode

Agent executing without confirmation

Problem: Agent makes changes without asking for approval first. Solutions:
  • You’re in Act Mode, which executes immediately by default
  • Switch to Plan Mode if you want to review plans before execution
  • Use clearer instructions like “show me a plan first” in Act Mode

Planning takes too long

Problem: Agent spends excessive time on planning and discussion. Solutions:
  • If task is straightforward, switch to Act Mode for faster results
  • Provide more specific requirements to reduce exploration
  • Ask Agent to “proceed with the plan” if planning is complete
  • Break large tasks into smaller, concrete steps

Need to modify the plan

Problem: The proposed plan doesn’t match your vision or requirements. Solutions:
  • Stay in Plan Mode and continue the discussion
  • Provide more context, constraints, or specific requirements
  • Ask Agent to explore alternative approaches
  • Clarify which aspects need adjustment
  • Don’t switch to Act Mode until plan is satisfactory

Can’t find mode selector

Problem: Unable to locate the Plan/Act mode switch. Solutions:
  • Look at bottom-right corner of Agent chat window
  • Mode selector shows current mode (Plan or Act)
  • Update to latest version if selector is missing

Mode switches unexpectedly

Problem: Mode changes without user action. Solutions:
  • Agent may suggest mode switch if task better suits different mode
  • You must confirm mode switches explicitly
  • Check if you accidentally clicked mode selector
  • Restart chat if behavior persists
